A nascent and high-growth asset class facilitating the transition to a net-zero GHG economy.
Shift to Net-Zero GHG Economy
Companies are moving towards net-zero GHG emissions due to government policy, pressure from the investment community, and demands from the general public. This shift is significant; to date, entities with net-zero commitments encompass roughly 70% of global GDP, and all companies with net-zero commitments together represent sales of nearly $14 trillion dollars.
The Carbon Credit Market
Companies can achieve net-zero GHG emissions by decreasing emissions or offsetting their emissions through the purchase of carbon offsets. Carbon credits can be generated from various forest project types, and one credit represents the reduction of 1 metric ton of CO2. Issuance of carbon credits are subject to strict certification standards and verification requirements.
There are compliance markets for carbon credits, whereby organizations are mandated to purchase carbon credits to offset emissions due to government caps on emissions, and voluntary markets in which organizations will purchase carbon credit to achieve their voluntary net-zero GHG commitments.
There are currently significant regulatory changes taking place in carbon credit markets, and the carbon credit market is estimated to grow from less than $1 billion in 2020 to approximately $50 billion in 2030.
Our Role
Boreal develops carbon credits to help companies achieve their net-zero GHG targets. We are a pure-play carbon credit developer focused on investing in forestry projects in North America. Our projects provide Boreal with long-term recurring revenues through the development of carbon credits which can be used by organizations to offset their carbon emissions.
